PELT JOEP

PELT JOEP

Joep Pelt is a musical globetrotter. Raised on the muddy banks of the Mississippi and the Niger by the likes of R.L. Burnside and Ali Farka Touré, Joep often finds himself on both American and African backroads, in search for new inspiration and ingredients for his music. A synthesis of the various music styles that Joep absorbed over the years, together with the stories he collected while being on the road, provide a firm basis for his songs. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, or plugged in with his band, Joep will lead you to the shimmering twilight between different musical worlds.

In the Netherlands, Joep featured on four editions of the North Sea Jazz Festival, as well as Festival Mundial, Oerol, and on venues such as the Bimhuis, Vredenburg and Paradiso. In the US Joep Pelt played at two editions of the SXSW festival, at various Texan roadhouses, the chitlin’ circuit of Mississippi, Clarksdale’s Sunflower Blues & Gospel Festival, and venues in Chicago, San Francisco and New York. Joep also played at multiple venues in Ethiopia and Mali, where he performed at the Festival sur le Niger in Segou.

Joep toured and recorded with various international artists such as the Malian Bambara Blues guitarist Lobi Traoré, South African Hammond guru Black Moses Ngwenya, and many more.
